Father
A poem for my daddy and my aunt.
My mama was a single mother for most of my life. I had no older siblings, so my aunt was very much so a big sister and did many of the things a dad did. Most of all, she played sports (whenever I decided I wanted to fit in) and video games with me.
Shortly before I got married myself, my mama remarried. While I was well into adulthood, I still appreciated having a step-father who took on the job like I was born to him. He’s just as much my daddy as if I was his own.
A sentinel, you stand To defend To provide To shelter A teacher, because of you I can fight I can hunt I can repair what is broken A coach, you have inspired My dreams My success My future A safe place Within your arms Within your voice Within your heart
